Impending Doom: Baptized in Filth

This is the fourth release from California Christian Deathcore/death metal band Impending Doom.

Right off the bat, I was blown away at how heavy this album is. It’s easily the heaviest album of the bands career thus far and I would also argue that it’s the best album the band have put out. From the anthemic chants of doom in “Murderer” to the explosive assault in “Death. Ascension. Resurrection.”  this album is heart-pounding non stop and extremely vicious. If you

The most surprising and potentially most controversial piece of this album is the song “My Light Unseen”. This song is the first song by Impending Doom to feature clean vocals. I quite like the song a lot on its own, but i’m still trying absorb it and figure out whether or not it belongs with this particular band. I mean, Impending Doom have become famous for creating their own blend of deathcore and death metal with Christian lyrics and themes, which has divided and alienated potential fans etc. and this step further divides, separates and adds to the bands resume. I’ve found that this is a band that you either love or hate, with not a lot of middle ground. It’ll be interesting to see how people react to this song. Feel free to share your own thoughts and opinions.

There’s not much to be said about this album. Die-hards will love it. Casual fans will be satisfied and haters will continue to hate. It’s heavier than anything they’ve done before in my opinion and I think it’s the best thing they’ve done. Besides the really ballsy move with clean singing and melodic guitars, I think that the everything has been raised a level on this album and we’ll just have to see how the rest of the fans decide. Impending Doom are a band that found their sound in 2007 with Nailed. Dead. Risen. and have not only been able to keep that formula going throughout all of their in between records, but improve upon them and get better (arguably) with every record.

I like the record a lot and I think you will too.
